Need a Holley 3259 Expert
« on: August 01, 2022, 02:54:35 PM »
I am rebuilding my Holley 3259 (Le Mans) carburetor and need to know if it's supposed to have a accelerator pump discharge weight or check ball above the pump discharge needle in the discharge nozzle (squirter).  I've checked many Holley diagrams and exploded views, but none specific for the 3269 unit, and I don't know if it had one and I lost it in the disassembly.   Thanks for the help.

The 1960s Holley Carburetor Company Typical View Illustration No. 34-1 shows the exploded view that goes with the detailed descriptions of parts to go with the itemized variable parts in different carburetor assemblies. The illustration shows parts for many different assemblies so you have to have the detailed variable parts list to go with it.

Search = Holley TV 34-1 to get a *.pdf file.

I believe the current service part number you require is 121-5 in the Holley(R) system, "Accelerator Pump Nozzle Check Needle".

Thanks Dan.  I have that exploded view illustration in the rebuild kit I got from Cobranda.  Since it covers many early 4150s, it shows a needle, a weight and a check ball.  There is no way all three of them fit in at the same time.  I have rebuilt many Holleys, but never a 3259.  Some have had a check ball, some have had a check ball and weight.  due to the size of the needle, i'm quite sure it doesn't also have a barrel weight, but not sure if it had a ball.  I think not because the ball would have to go above the needle, but wanted to check with the 3259 experts.

Try emailing Drew Pojedinec at AirFuelSpark - he only restores & rebuilds 60s&70s Ford Holley carbs. He has restored a couple of BOSS List 4653 carbs for me and Ive seen him restore a bunch of 3259s on his Facebooks business page. Drew is super helpful and shares his knowledge & in my experience  usually replies to Facebook messages pretty quick if he is home. He does go to sea for weeks at a time, he is a Chief Engineer on a US flagged tug boat.

Here is a photo from his page showing a 3259 before reassembly. To me, it looks like a check ball sitting on the bench next to the rest of the accelerator pump and vacuum components, not sure where it goes...

I see the check ball for the secondary vacuum diaphragm.  Looks like needle only below discharge nozzle.  From my memory our 3259's used the needle only,  but would check with Drew.

I rebuilt my 3259 a few yrs. ago and went through that thought process about the check ball. As I remember there was no check ball ,just the needle. I have no check ball and my carb runs excellent and as good as new. This is for a 65 Shelby so do not know if a 66 would be different.
Hope this helps

The answer is the 3259 only uses the needle.  Glad to find out I didn't lose something.  Thanks to all that replied.

Only needle.

I?ve seen one with ball and weight, it came directly from another restorer. It was replaced with needle.
