Thermactor air pump relief valve silencer - 66 T code
« on: September 06, 2016, 11:29:32 AM »
Hi, is there anybody out there that knows the measures of this filter, or know a place were I can find them..? I'm trying to locate a original C6DZ-9B472-A silencer, but it's very difficult and not sure if I can finally find any, so maybe I can reproduce it. But will need he help of any of you that has this silencer in your car, for the most accurate measures to reproduce it. Pictures from several angles are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Josep

Since you are looking for PICTURES, here are the ones I took of the 67 VERSION that I sold a while back. There are three images of the 67 Assembly manual to show how things would be arranged on that model year. As I said earlier, I HAVE NOT RESEARCHED THE WHOLE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE LATE 66 VERSION YOU NEED AND THIS 67 VERSION, I KNOW THERE ARE SOME DIFFERENCES so these are just to help you or others see what is the same, might be the same and what is obviously different between the two. Some might be collecting images and are free to copy then as desired.

Hope it helps.

One picture has the wedge-shaped silencer pictured by itself on the floor, I can still measure the floor square, but these items are all long gone, back to California.

Richard, many thanks for posting all those pics, they are really interesting and I have downloaded for comparison purpouses. I see some differences, like the absence of snorkel in the air pump filter, but not many more..
I have, or almost have all the components for the 66 SMOG system for my car, only lacking 2 parts, the silencer and the tube support bracket. I've been told the this silencer type C C6DE-9B472-A was only mounted if the customer complained, so I'm not bad if I mount the type A C6AZ-9B472-A that we already have.

I was looking for the measures of the type C silencer, the one you sold, because maybe I can reproduce it.
The bracket C6DE-9B481-A is also missing, but if I can get also the measures, I can do it.

Thanks again.!

Josep

Don't know where you got that tidbit  ::) but the TSB I posted earlier showed that the silencer was applied at all plants starting on Feb 14 1966 on all 6 cylinders with Thermactor  and from there on. Guess it could be applied to earlier if those owners complained but that is not what Ford sent out to its network. The item you have currently is not IMHO correct for your car or application as pointed out in the TSB

That thread so that the TSB can be seen and read again

Hi Jeff,

Yes, I also got a message from the vendor regarding the silencer:
"According to the parts book, the C6DZ-9B472-A was used after 1/24/66, and the C6ZZ-9B472-A before 1/24/66."

So my car is after 1/24/66 so must have had the C6DZ instead of the C6ZZ.
I'll continue the haunt.
BTW, yesterday I found the tube support bracket and adjusting arm :)
Valve silencer is C6AZ, so I'm not buying it..

Josep

Ps: Jeff, tidbit came from another forum's reputed member. And think it was extracted from the ad you sent, the one showing the three kinds of mufflers. In the explanation.

I would tend to believe the TSB articles rather than a parts book but the dates are only approx three weeks apart,as being the more correct date of the two.  Fixed the link above to the correct one

A little at a time. Coming together much quicker than I thought it would for you.   :)
