Any idea what this is???
« on: January 29, 2012, 06:01:12 PM »
I'm in the process of gutting my 64 1/2 for restoration.  I was working on the trunk when I noticed something strange.  "224" is written in the paint.  It first looked like it was written in the dust but when I tried to clean it I realized that it is in the paint.

Any ideas???

What is the original color?  Looks like the "224" is written in a re-paint.  looks like the original blue paint is under the lighter paint.

Could possibly be a build date, ironically, I had a "224" paint mark on my front lower radiator support. Then found out later our Mach 1 was built on Feb. 24, 69. Just my thought.

Sunlight yellow.

Hmmm.  Interesting.  Hard to tell from picture.  What is the bluish color that looks like it is underneath the yellow?  Does it look like primer or maybe a batch color?  No idea what the 224 could be.  Possibly a rotation number? Have not seen or read about them being in that location before.  maybe someone else on here has... ???

I went back and took another pic without the flash.  The flash made the rust look blue.

Have not seen that before on an early Dearborn built car - might be a random markings (only on your car) or the rotation (seen this number anywhere else? )  but seems an odd place for that  Given the location maybe  :-\  the first rotation.

Stabbing in the dark here ;)
