Correct 4 Speed Block Plate- 69 GT350
« on: June 20, 2023, 10:32:05 PM »
Can anyone out there tell me which block to  bellhousing plate is correct for a 69 GT350 with 4 speed- the perfectly smooth one or the one with the 'smile ' stamped in? My car was disassembled when I bought it and was missing that plate, and I ended up with these two, both for the 164 tooth flywheel (I also posed this question on the SAAC Forum, will post the concensus there too)

Thanks,
Dave

Don't recall ever seeing one with a depressed or formed "smile" like the one you posted.  Looking at other examples of 69 351 Windsor pictures I don't see it on those examples either. In addition the Boss 302 engine plate is like your example on the left. Will up date this post with some pictures in a few minutes. Might want to check the stamping date. Can't recall how late they did it but on earlier ones, unlike almost all sheet metal, they included the year in the stamping. Don't have a later one to look at this moment to check.

Best that I can offer in pictures at the moment. More automatics (Mustang and Shelby 351 Windsors) built and less pictures of the manual transmission plates for at least me

Hope this helps in some way

69 Boss 302

69 351 Windsor. Only the area near the starter but if it had the depression as your picture shows I would think we could see it

A similar depression, or 'smile', shows up on FMX block plates around 1970.

Jeff,
Sure appreciate the reply. Sounds like the smooth plate I have will be the one I use. Thanks!
