how was it?? good cars there??

Attended and judged one car.
Decent turnout (just under 300 from my understanding) for the region and location. It is June and there was likely a dozen other shows owners could choose from Example Cobra Experience was holding a show the same weekend about 4-5 hours away.
Lots of modified cars in attendance. One owner drove his Boss 429 1,000 miles to attend 8) - That was impressive. Was picking bugs out of the grill all Friday. Didn't see allot of SoCal attendees but did see allot of friends from NorCal, Utah and the Northwest regions. Pace car crowd appeared to be well represented.
Weather was warm (hot on the parking lot pavement) slight breeze keep it from getting as hot as it could be. Some mixed clouds from time. Better IMHO location than the last show at Boom Town and from what I saw a great job from all the members of the local host club.

It was an excellent show. Great location, and well run.

We were there with 2 unrestored cars. Nice hotel and a fairly nice attendance for a west coast show.

No, it was an MCA National Show.

Really wish I had the courage to have tried it, maybe Tucson. ;D

What do you have to lose? I had bad judging for several years due to politics. Actually worse than bad judging, since it was deliberate. I could tell you stories!
Didn't stop me from hauling my coupe to the east and southeast once a year. My revenge was earning the blue grille medallion in 2005 and retiring the car at the same time. I also had a lot of fun on the trips and at the shows. So, it took me a couple years longer than it should have, I still won in the end. The car is now almost halfway towards its second white medallion.

Believe your referring to Hot August Nights a local GIANT show that involves a number of towns in the area, every casino, an auto auction, autocross, drifting, Charity Raffle Car (made $65K last year for the foundation - was a 71-73 coupe), drag races, swap meet and tons of individual shows for about a week. The event is advertised as the largest nostalgic car show in the world. Most of the shows award trophies and cash to the winners in each class. Reported to bring in about $76 million dollars to the local economy and attended by about 127,000 people (figures from six years ago)
Looks like the top show (Hot August Nights Cup) this year will be limited to 50 cars (sort of like the Riddler award) for over $100,000 in prize money
They were holding a big meeting for the volunteers for that event at the same hotel as MCA show last weekend getting ready for the event

I just saw the awards list for the Reno show for Concours judging, I was surprised by how few Shelbys were there, I only see one that won anything, is that right?

Only one classic Shelby was entered in the Concours classes. Lots of other things completing that weekend and lots of owners are into the whole Concours thing. For example Cobra Experience (about 4 hours away and closer to the urban centers) was having a show/display that Saturday. They likely scooped up 20 or so (likely more) early Shelby's there. Only one other Shelby had been entered that I'm aware of - judged the guys car at least a half dozen or so times before. Pretty certain he choose one of the Bay area shows instead that weekend - hopefully it wasn't anything else (non-car connected) that made it impossible to attend

Thanks Jeff, pretty slim pickings for Shelbys it seems. One of the MCA guys said a '66 carryover and a '68 GT500 'vert were also entered but failed to get anything. Did you see those?

If there were there, didn't see them or hear of them, they were not entered in the Concours classes. Though they might have been entered in daily or occasionally driven classes - a class where its cleanliness that can be seen from above (no undercarriages as I understand it) those classes have tons of cars in them. But it still better than the old days where Shelby's were sort of forced into the Concours classes and not allowed/placed in those others.
If they were there I would like to have seen them, met the owners and gotten some pictures ;) If they were there and on the field must have been in the last couple of rows in the back of the parking lot
Only recall seeing a "fake 66 Hertz" advertised as a clone out in the parking lot
