Title: 65 spare tire - pin or hook?
Post by: fast66 on April 25, 2024, 08:20:43 AM: Hi, we had a discussion about when the change from slot/pin to loop/hook for fastening the spare tire, happened?
I read something about a TSB from feb1 -65 but someone else said "early" -65...

Anyone in the group that can clarify when this change happened?

Yes there is a running changes thread on the subject by plant unfortunately given the area most of the NJ cars were sold to and the resulting rust in many of the examples we don't have as much examples that have not been repaired or restored. For example we've got San Jose (so far) down to late Jan 65 so basically early Feb is in the possible range also.

Post by: jwc66k on April 25, 2024, 04:49:49 PM: The 1965 Mustang Body Assembly Manual (AM0006) pg 86 (the page number is blurred on my copy - ref N5-8930) shows the addition of the spare wheel plate, C5ZB-1424-A, and "hook" bolt, C5AB-1448-B, both with an effective date of 10-9-64.
This does not really establish an absolute date, but a Ford engineering change to an assembly line procedure. We know that Ford used up existing items in many cases.
