Aftermarket/Period '65-'66 Gas Cap Trim Plate
« on: December 26, 2015, 07:54:38 AM »
Anouther (aftermarket I think) accessory that I happen to like the look of.....

This is the piece that bolts under the gas cap, and is finned........

There IS some speculation as to IF it was offered by FORD or if it indeed was aftermarket, made specifically for '65-'66 Mustangs.

They are a little hard to find now, I HAVE one that I installed briefly when my car was first restored but was advised to remove it for MCA judging.

I am past the judging now, and want to start driving and enjoying MY car.

I'm going to put some sort of thin padding on the back of it before I re-install it so it won't mark or scratch the paint around the cap.

Thoughts? Opinions?

It's aftermarket, not concourse and it's your car. I've put two of the cork gaskets to move the gas cap from the body just a little bit more, advice tossed around years ago.

I promise to be politically correct in all my posts to keep the BBBB from vociferating.

Thanks guys, Yes, it is my car, and yes the one in the JC Whitney catalog is the one I bought a few years back from a Mustang parts supplier.

Like I say, I would ABSOLUTELY NEVER drill holes or cut any part of (any vehicle really) to install aftermarket parts....

I happen to like this piece and plan on installing it and enjoying the unique, period correct look it has.
