Finish of AC idler pulley brackets
« on: April 11, 2015, 10:11:52 PM »
I'm replacing the bearings on both the fixed and adjustable idlers pulleys on my 66.  While I have them apart I want to refinish them back to factory original.  I believe the pulleys were painted semi-gloss black but I thought the brackets were natural.  I haven/t been able to verify this anywhere thus far.  I have an NOS adjustable bracket on ebay right now for a full size Ford and the entire bracket and pulley appear to be finished in a charcoal phosphate.  Can anyone point me in a direction of where I can find the correct finish for these pulleys?

Yes, seen that on 65-66, natural/phosphate bracket with black painted pulley and zinc plated bearing cap/natural bearing end.

Sorry to bring this up just wanted to be sure early cars (October 64) were this finish and not all black. Rules state either way but would like to be correct

Is this about the correct finish on this bracket? I stripped the black paint off of it (most so far) and this is what was underneath? If correct how do I go about protecting it?

As mentioned before ,the bracket is bare cast iron, pulley is between semigloss and glossier blackand center cap is zinc silver. The preferred method of protection for the cast steel is T9 or similar rust inhibitor rather then clear coat.FYI it will protect the plating also.
