Chrome Remote Mirror - 69 Mustang or ??
« on: December 01, 2018, 04:07:46 PM »
I have a nice chrome remote mirror which I believed to be '69 Mustang.  However, the engineering number is not listed in my 1975 MPC, so I am not sure what it is.  Can someone help me out?  The engineering number cast into the base is C9ZB-17743-B.

That part number is probably a component part of the mirror assembly. It would not appear in the MPC (aka Ford Car Parts) because it is not serviced. You will not replace it, you will get the whole mirror assembly. With the "Z" in the third position (C9ZA-), it was designed for Mustang use.

PS: The majority of part numbers in the Ford MPC are "service" related. There are a few "engineering" part numbers listed, plus a few Mercury, truck and other product lines included. The actual part in the box often has the original design part number. It's "service", not "concourse" related.

You may be correct.  I have a non-remote RH mirror with a C7..... number cast into the base and that number appears in the MPC and translates to a valid p/n.  However, this 17743 number doesn't appear associated with any outside mirrors in the MPC so it could well be that it is not the actual engineering number for the assembly.

Jim nailed it.
If the component is separate from the main item it can carry a separate number, since engineering has to have a reference. However, if it is not serviced other than with that main item (can only be purchased as an assembly) it will not appear in the MPC.

Here is a pic in the MPC that shows the 17743 in an illustration, but it is not listed in the text as it is serviced as part of the mirror assembly.
