Door Strikers
« on: April 28, 2021, 09:36:37 AM »
I'm planning on painting the car mostly the way the factory did, which means with the doors on the car. My question is about the striker. Did Ford have the strikers on the car during paint or were they added later? I see on many different restoration paint photos that many cars are sprayed with the strikers off which leads to the question, how do you mount and adjust the strikers without marring/scratching the new paint?

Use a Pozi Drive bit when removing / installing the striker bolts.  It will go easier than trying to use a Phillips.

I believe they are size 4 Pozi, but a size 3 will still do the job.

Owners/builders will make scratch shields that approximately match the thickness as one of the shims and install them between the sticker and spacers as they adjust them against the body then once they find the sweet spot replace the plastic shield with a thin shim and double check their work

Think margarine, Cool-Wip (s?) or milk containers

Sure there are other methods - just one option

Just have to figure out how to mark the sticker's location once you get it where you want it. Then you can remove the plastic, replace it with a thin shim and get it back in the right spot again. Number of ways - just have to figure out which one will work the best for you
