Replacing the VIN plate rivets?
« on: April 28, 2011, 07:45:41 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I'm in the process of restoring my 65' Fastback and was wondering how I should go about remove/replacing my current VIN door tag?

1. What size drill bit should I use to remove the OE rivets?

2. How do I punch the 'new' rivet's back in without damaging them?

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated...

Cheers,

Use a drill slightly smaller than the indentation for removal.  To install, I believe the size is 1/4" drill bit (reversed so the shank is inserted into the indentation), and give a couple good love taps which expands the rivet.  If 1/4" is not correct, use a drill bit that just barely fits into the indentation.  That's it!
