VIN and Build date
« on: May 06, 2011, 12:09:56 AM »
Came across this Mustang on ebay...It's vin is about 4,000 off from mine and was built Oct 6 1964.  Mine starts with 1523XX but was build Oct 29.  Is that normal?  As a side note, this car is identical in color to mine but is convertible as opposed to a fastback.

The auction car has a repro data plate, so that leaves a lot open to speculation.  The gap in production numbers versus scheduled build date is not unreasonable though.  Remember that the date on the door plate is just a scheduled build date.

I did notice that the data plate was a repo.  I was just glad to find a car built close to mine and also the same color combination.  There is actually another honey gold conv on ebay right now as well that the guy is supposed to post a pic of the dataplate.  It's build date is 30L, also in San Jose.  I"m curious as to if anyone is collecting the data off the ebay cars if the dataplate looks original to the car...

I collected ebay car pics for about 7 or so years, but haven't been doing it the last couple of years.  Have a bunch of stuff like Jeff does.  Probably have some pics of original data plates from the time your car was built.
