Found these amusing pics on ebay. The seller seems to have a number of different types of these. Not sure if it's a lame attempt on his part to deceive, or if he's merely the conduit for poorly-executed fakes. Or maybe it's someone's attempt at humor.

Maybe. Was someone faking parts like this back in the 60s-70s? Faking might not be the right word - knockoff like you said.
The boxes look old and beat up, but if they went through the effort to half-ass replicate the box graphics, maybe they faked the shelf wear too?

The Automotive boxes have been around at least since the early 80's. Could get parts in them at the local parts stores around here and you still see them show up at swap meets - NOS from some old parts store

I've seen the "Automotive" often, both back in the day, and still surviving at swap meets today. The Carcraft is new to me, apparently they copied Autolite and Motorcraft as well.
I think it's funny that while Motorcraft's packaging portrayed a GT 40, the knock off seems to show a speeding station wagon!

I was half fooled by a starter solenoid in a blue, white and black Ford looking box. For $15 I knew I was not getting the real thing. The give away was seeing the nuts in a plastic bag. I will post up a picture later. Same print and wording as Ford.

I actually remember when these first came out; at least in the 70's and possibly late 60's. I also remember wondering if Ford was going to sue them, and believe there must have been at least some litigation begun. I say this because, again as I recollect, they weren't on the shelves very long. I think that, I too, have seen more at swap meets than I did "back in the day" (which may also be an indication that Ford at least got them, whomever "them" was, to stop selling parts packaged like these). Just my opinion.

Goes to show that the Chinese have been making phony parts, etc. for a long while. ;) ::) I remember seeing them on the "automotive" shelves of a department store. Can't recall what store. Just remember seeing the close resemblance to Motorcraft. Ford must have sued them because they were not around long.

They used to have a poster on a wall at the Chicago regional Ford training center. On it were dozens of examples of the 'lookalike' packaging. Some were downright comical. Most walked a fine line and if the ghosted GT was used, the lawyers swooped in. Much of what was in the packages was some level of crap.
