68 Running Changes Main Thread - San Jose Findings

(1/2) > >>

J_Speegle:
As we've done for other years it appears it time to at least start a thread covering 68 running changes.

Will continue to add suggestions for individual running changes here in this thread while will be the basis for related link threads focused on each individual subject. Remember to keep these 68 San Jose focused here please not for cars and findings from other plants or years. We can cover those in additional thread or work them into this one later after a re-title and adding some subsections. We'll see how it goes

To keep the thread from getting too long or out of hand please don't post that you found this version or that on car 8R02C2345xx (for example). We can save that for the research period and for the individual running change threads as we have for other years so far. Just trying to identify the features during this first effort. Will break out the findings by plant of course.  Hope we can work through other plants also. Since this is likely to get to be a very long list I think that unlike the 66 version I will break the lists out by general area of the car to keep it a little more organized. We'll see how that works.

We will drop items and discovers if its determined that a detail is not a true running change but was a result of some other finding.

If you post suggestions for items to be included I will delete your posting after it has been incorporated rather than let the add to post run on for pages ;)

I think that it was mid-February for San Jose. My GT/CS which was built Feb 5 has the painted and recessed rear reflectors.

DTruitt:
390 air cleaner types, not so much a running change, but different between the Canadian (non-emission) engines vs the U.S. emissions motors.

Turn Signal Hood vs. Flat Hood

In general it would be good to add strike perspective - what was the start date and when did production resume.  It would be interesting to assess which changes were likely due to cost cutting efforts vs. fixing a problem.

Coralsnake:
Mustang production was interrupted from September 7, 1967 through November 11, 1967 during the United Auto Workers strike, not a large percentage of cars were produced before strike, so its likely not a significant issue.

It is a good point though
