Title: 69 Boss 429 headlamps
Post by: bgp429 on March 06, 2016, 07:21:36 PM
Trying to figure out what headlamp was installed. Has a 2-28 69 build date at Ford.   I think it should have a TS with Ford script. Is that correct? If so does anyone make a new replacement? Tried the search feature, it didn't exactly pin it down.

TS is typical according to Ed Meyer. Only old replacement.

Saw the Ed Meyer video with the red boss. He brought up the lamps but it was an earlier car than mine.  Didn't know when the GE change over began. Now the search begins. Thanks

Actually it was easier than I thought. Found 3 on E Bay and one in the basement. Cost about $50.

main thing to watch for is the old style wide fluting glass that ended around 72 or so as the glass design is a very noticeale change.

Good memory Ed!  Change was published March 17, 72 change took place according to Ford on the line starting Jan 3rd of that year

TSB article info posted here ;)

Headlamps seem like such as easy thing to get right but apparently not.

Here are 3 lights, all are TS. Low beam on the left is wide flute with script so it is wrong. Center one is narrow flute without script so it is wrong. High beam on the right is wide flute with script so it is wrong. What I need is narrow flute with script on all 4?

bgp429 check the link below and it should address the width of the fluting issue

I am going to add this guide in this discussion here as it may be useful so you can better see the fluting and some other details.

Marcus, what about the Westinghouse with the molded trademark in the glass? I have never thought that was correct for a 69/70 Dearborn Boss or Shelby but what about other Ford plants. Was the Westinghouse not used at all in 69 or 70? It seems like I have found a number of them over the years on 70 models before . Torinos and Rancheros? Maybe 71 just don"t remember. I didn't pay much attention because it was something that wasn't for the cars I was interested in.

The Westinghouse bulbs are by far the coolest of them all in my opinion.  My experience at this point is that I do not see them really used in Mustangs and Cougars during 69 and 70.  Cant say they are never used, but certainly not typical.  I was always of the opinion they were used in earlier years but I have no paid attention to the other brand cars like you said.

For what it's worth....

On my 70 Dearborn Mach1 (early 1970 build) , both the headlights are the type with the molded in ford logo. I can't say for certain whether they are original to the car, but the car was really original when I bought it in 1987 from the original owner. It still had the original belts and hoses on it. The cars in storage now, but next time I'm there, I'll pull one of the bulbs and see if it's dated on the back....
