Intake Manifold Cover / Cap
« on: April 23, 2020, 08:34:24 PM »
Can anyone confirm what year cars these covers/caps came on? I tend to see them still attached to the very low mileage cars. Just not sure if all 87-93 cars had them or if it was specific years. In addition, if anyone has any ideas on search terms to buy one, I am looking to find on and unsure what to search for on eBay, etc.

The decorative cover came on 86-88 5.0 motors.
Haven't seen one for sale for a while, but "5.0 EFI intake (Cap,cover, decorative, plug)" would probably be my starting search. Be careful though, it is different between the regular 5.0 and the Mustang 5.0 HO intakes (upper intake is reversed).

I have an '87 HO Mustang that we bought new. It had the cover you are asking about. It is made of a rubbery foam material and was glued to the intake. It didn't last long, and most are missing. I don't imagine that Ford serviced this part.

Just a few days late but wanted to throw this caution in. If you find one, be sure it's for a Mustang (i.e. the plenum is on the driver's side). The caps also came on 5.0's installed in other models but the upper intake was flipped (plenum on passenger side). They look similar but they're not the same and won't fit properly. The angles are different.

As a side note, my '86 GT which I purchased new (delivered Dec. '85) had the cap on it's intake.

Thanks for the info! Based on that, it does not seem like it would be correct for my 89 GT. One less part to track down then.
