1967 GT500 Front Disc Brake Rotors
« on: September 18, 2020, 08:29:49 AM »
It will be fall soon and time to get back to brakes and electrical as my knee heals from surgery. I will be sending out front calipers for rebuild. Is there an originality reason to have my original? rotors ground down or should they just be replaced in order to get the best surface and thickness possible? I see NPD sells rotors for 8 cylinders here. Not sure if they are the right ones for a 428. I will have to verify. Thanks.

All of the typical replacement alternatives have gone to a one piece rotor hub assembly. The assembly line rotor assembly is two piece. You can tell one piece or two even with the wheel mounted . Yes I think the NPD rotor hat can be used to replace your  out of spec original .The NPD offering is not exact in detail but much closer then the alternatives. The black on the NPD rotor needs to look like cast steel for the most correct look however you decide to achieve that. Once the new rotor has been pressed onto the spindle hub you will need to have it turned slightly to true up the surface . The 428 does not have anything to do with the V8 rotor.

Thanks all. I will not know if mine are still good until I take them off. I guess I am better off trying to save them rather than replace. Since they are a safety measure, I want to be cautious and have alternatives. Even if I do replace, I will certainly put them aside and save them as I have done with other parts like Mag Star center caps.
