66 GT350 Quarter Vent Rain Gutter Discussion
« on: January 01, 2022, 05:54:07 PM »
As a result of a growing discussion over in the WANTED section about fastback quarter vent/window rain gutter shields though it would be best to separate what was done at San Jose for Mustangs fastbacks and 66 Shelbys. Though they still share some of the same unibody panels the way the orders were configured and what processes took place at Shelby American all come into play with those cars.

I've invited SFM6S1640/Cory to repost the relevant to Shelby material from his last post so we can discuss further.

Was waiting before posting the below pic... there was a comment about cars not coming to SA without the plastic.  I assume that's plastic and not smoke from the welding.  Also, guessing this is a late 65 or changeover car since over-rides brackets being welded.

Also, isn't this a late '65 thing?  Don't remember exactly when the short drain spouts started... assume it was a manufacturing mistake?

Thanks for the picture. To bad we don't know which car that is. Guess with the threads we'll figure out when the change to the gutter happened at San Jose

First contribution for me on the subject - Included above

Think this picture possibly puts an end to the idea that the shield being removed or added/left in place was related to the later Shelbys and the exterior mounted scoop and duct end. Still needed to access this area to install the ducting. This example built very close to the one in Reply #2. Both in the low 6S1200's but likely different order groups and both with ducts installed to the interior surfaces of the body.

This one clearly has the original water shield in place. Don't this provides and answer at this point but may reduce the possible reasons

Fairly early 66 GT350 in the late 400's. Nothing left to help us other than what appears to be the remains of spray adhesive suggesting IMHO that there was likely a water shield originally installed at San Jose
