Console 4 speed shift pattern plate

Have another 68 Shelby question. Did all 68 Shelby GT500 manual transmission cars have the 4-speed shift pattern plate on the console? And if so, was it just centered spacing wise?

No, not all GT500s got the plates. I am not sure any did? What evidence do we have they did?

Just to clarify, the original shift knob for a GT500 is the plastic, blue racing striped knob, with the shift pattern.

In contrast, the GT500 KR was supposed to use the wooden “Cobra”  shift knob (without a shift pattern) . The brass shift plate was designed to compliment that specific application.

Even though the wooden shift knob was not used, KRs did end up using the brass plate.

I dont believe the brass plate was used on the GT500. It was actually designed two months after production started and by that time a good number of cars were already completed.

Thanks Peter! I figured you would probably have insight on this. Have seen that wood (plastic) knob on 69 cars but it has the shift pattern on it. Was looking on the original console and couldn't see any spot where the plate might have been. Unfortunately the original console fell victim to a vertical end gate shiftier.... must of been a good idea at the time :o

This is what the knob was supposed to be for the KRs, and it would be with the brass plate. This knob did not get used during production, but the brass plate did get added

Hi Pete,

So to be clear, KR with wooden knob was added after sale and a brass plate was used on all KR?s at delivery?

Thanks Ross

KRs usually had the plate and the plastic blue stripped knob
