I did some checking on the horns on my Sports Roof after reading Marcus's article on 69-70 horns and looked at several examples on the site. The date codes indicate 70 (well past my early June build date) horns but the bracket looks nothing like any of the examples. The bracket does have a Fomoco stamp on it but no other numbers. Note it is a straight bracket with no indexing tab. As near as I can tell this is not the correct bracket for a mustang. Does anybody know if these horns were used on other fords of the time period. My thoughts are that somebody replaced the originals at some time but with the wrong application. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated for these brackets leave the horn up to high and it hits the inside of the hood.

Looks to me that the bracket has been modified rather than being correct for another model of car. The end looks radiused and I would also (as you mentioned) expect and index feature

Jeff I think your're dead on, looked at the other horn and its completely evident that the bracket has been cut. I'm still puzzled by something else, from the other examples I mentioned earlier; that is the nut holding the bracket to the horn. All the examples I have seen don't show a nut, they almost look pressed on.
Thanks,

Looks to me like some modifications have been done for sure. Ford did sell a universal horn kit that allowed you to mount the bracket in a number of ways with the adjustable nut. Maybe these were mounted on a different car at one time? Hard to say.
I would just buy a new set of correct date coded horns - they are not that hard to find and that solves your problem here.

Thanks for the clarification on the nut Marcus, I'll check with my local guy and check ebay also. Thanks for the great article it was very informative!
