Title: Convertible Top: Seal Assembly-Windshield Header
Post by: Building 3 on April 09, 2015, 02:12:36 PM
I know that the convertible top material should be Haartz pinpoint vinyl.  But I have been told that the seal that rests on the windshield header (Ford calls this part: Seal Assembly-Windshield Header) should be a different material.  I have heard "moonscape" and "mouse texture."  Can you provide any clarity to this? I have seen many reproduction tops and it seems that the top material is always used for the "Seal Assembly-Windshield Header." However, on original tops, the material is different. Is there a source for this material? Thank you.

Yeah, Maybe for a '65-'66 Hardtop or Fastback headliner.......but not for the windlace...  Convertible Windlace is just like the windlace for any other '65-'66 mustang... Only the lengths of it was different for the convertible.

Below is the weblink at VCM for the best windlace available on the market:

Also, On a '65-'66 Convertible, The only material that even touched the windshield header is the Convertible Top Windshield Header Rubber Seal.

If you are talking about the material that goes over the convertible top pads, That is a different material altogether.

I think that you need to correctly identify what material you are actually talking about here, I think that you are mis-communicating the area that you are talking about.  I don't think that you are referring to actual "Windlace".

You are correct. I used the wrong term in my original post.  I have changed the post to be more correct. The part to which I am referring is part of the convertible top assembly and it rests along the windshield header. Original cars have a different material for this part than the rest of the top material. I am looking to find the right material.  Thanks again.

A friend who has been in the upholstery business says it's called 'crush grain'.  The front header and the binding along the edge of the top (sides and rear window) are also the same material.

Any chance we could get a picture of this area?  I'm still confused as to what we're talking about.
