who can tell me what this stamped in date means   6   17  M4      Im think 1964 stamping but what does the M  stand for  if its not the month

June 17, '64.

The 'M' most likely indicates the stamping plant, which would have been Monroe, MI.

I have seen Fall of '64 cars with 'M5' codes, so it seems that the date stamps might not have followed the actual year, but the production/model year.
