Anyone out there with an original 67 with the shoulder belt option, or second best pictures of originals with enough details to answer these questions:
1. Were the shoulder belts and buckles black in color in all cases, which might look strange in an otherwise color keyed interior? Or were all belts changed to black in a non-black interior? In other words, would there have been red or green lap belts with a black shoulder belt?
2. I understand that there were two separate buckles, one for lap, one for shoulder. Any pictures of how they were attached?
3. How was the belt attached on the top side (bolt) and how was the strap attached (Velcro)?
Thanks, John

John I have only seen one car with this option. I know the owner and can ask him some of these questions.
I think his car has a black interior so no help there. I do believe that only the deluxe belt buckles were used.
The upper half attached in the same location as a 68 but used a clip type nut.
There was a special retainer that I think had Velcro at the front end to hold it up. I will try to get a photo next time I am there. The bottom half bolted up with the inside lap belt.

I have had requests for the clip, it was also used on very early 1968's
It is the Type 3 clip shown in this AMK catalog, note the Ford part number(s) associated. ........ and they are obsolete according to AMK.

I have been unsuccessful in removing them. Broke the only 2 that I have in the yard.

I was able to find a 3/8x16 j clip (similar to the fender j-bolt) at NAPA auto that did the trick for mounting the bolt.
Marty - I would be very interested in seeing a few detailed photos of the special retainer when you get the chance to take some. How it mounts, where it's mounted, what it looks like! I was discussing this with John on another thread.
Thanks
Mike

Would not want to rely on a J clip for an anchor point in an accident ::)

FYI the generic name for these is "cage nut". There are similar ones out there from different suppliers, but I haven't seen any with the double "hooks" on one end.

Apparently they came in colors other than black if this is a correct restoration. No reason to believe it isn't.
Blue interior - blue shoulder belt. From the Mid-America show this last weekend

Thanks Jeff. An assumption debunked? Or another 67 running change? Would need a lot more data naturally
-
Added VIN and real build date - that I should have included with the post :(

It looks to me like a 68 set up with the SS front hook/ hanger. 67s were not like that.

Yes it looks like a 68 style but I've not seen any original ones at that end.
Might ask Jeff Y next time you see him - he did the car and it was judged at MCA a few years back
-
The only one I have seen is Mike Poston's 67 K code fastback. R-A Motorsports did it as well. Stewart of Python did the belt restoration on it. I'll get pictures of it the next time I am there if I can.

No reasons to take pictures the picture I posted is that car.

Do we know if the car has the option listed on the Marti report? Even if it did, does not mean of course that during the life of the vehicle, including but not limited to the restoration, things could have been changed. However, if the option was added after the fact, the components used would lose credibility. Just stating the obvious I suppose.

Wow I judged that car at the Des Moines IA. MCA national and did not remember that front retainer. I did not know Mike then but thought at some point that we had discussed that Stewart had done the correct front retainer. I am sorry that I did not have my facts strait. I do know that it does have the option listed on the Marti.
Here is the drawing of what the front retainer should look like.

What is the date on that page from the assembly manual if you would? Might be another 67 running changes - possible? So many details are different in the manuals when compared to real cars I am hesitant to take the book as gospel or the final word by itself
-
The date on that page is 3-28-67 superseded 1-11-67.

Thanks Marty - at least that puts a date on what Ford was thinking/planning

According to the 1967 sales literature, the front shoulder harness was available with convertibles too - does anybody have photos of one?

The assembly manual has sketchings...they connect under the top of the backseat to a hole (presumably pre-drilled) and the strap runs out between the seatback and the quarter trim.

Pictures of shoulder belts from Groundpounder17's 7R02S104xxx are being added with permission for reference.

HA! John, I thought of you right away when I saw Groundpounder's list of options! I figured it wouldn't escape you to ask ;)
I have a question about this option POSED AT COUPES.
I see the holes for REAR SEAT SHOULDER HARNESSES, were they ever available on the 67's on COUPES or maybe this was something for COUGARS?
-
According to pages 38 and 39 of the showroom option book, it appears that they were available on all models. They are attached.

I had to turn my head sideways, but I see no mention of shoulder harnesses for the REAR SEATS
-
Oh - I did not read your post closely enough. You switched gears to rear belts. I would say that no rear seat belts were available in the 60's Mustangs. Actually they were probably not available until well into the 90's come to think of it.
Send pics from your car for clarity. If you can get in one shot where the front would be attached, and also where you think there is a hold for a rear seat belt attachment, that would be good.

OOPS! My bad, The REAR SEAT shoulder harness holes were only in the 68 coupes NOT on the 67 coupes. As far as a Coupe's front shoulder belt location, the holes are just like the fasback versions already pictured (and present whether or not originally equipped with the shoulder harness option). If somebody wants to do a thread for the 68 Mustang shoulder harness's I'd supply images for the rear deck location of where shoulder strap may have come on the coupes. (or could be put in). I'll try better to stay on topic ;)

Almost forgot to post this example - was labeling some pictures from last years collection of shows.

Sorry to drag this one up, but when looking at the 7R02S202xxx pictures that Jeff posted, I noticed that there are no coat hangers, whereas 7R02S104xxx does. I see that 7F02K156xxx has coat hangers but they are behind the belt attachment point.
It also looks like 7R02S104xxx is attached much further back than the other two.
Finally I can add one more car to the discussion, 7R02C176xxx. Located like the 156 and 202 car, and no coat hanger.

I did a review of the 67 and 68 Body and Interior manuals with respect to the coat hooks and shoulder belts, and found no drawing with both the coat hook and harness shown together. (I included the 68 just for an additional reference.)
OT: Another oddity was no 68 convertible coat hook documentation was included in the 68 manuals.
