I am looking for information on the Branded Mustang Promotion. I read that mustang monthly did an article on this. Does anyone know what month/year this article was written?
Thanks in advance.

Dave,
Thanks!

I went through my copy of that issue, and really didn't find anything on "Branded Mustang Promotions". The closest I found was an article on various manufacturer's kits for new Mustangs and an article by Jim Smart on various promotional Mustangs from 65-71.

Must be the Jim Smart Artical. I guess it has a blerb or someing in there about it.
Thanks midlife.

Mustang Monthly reported in 2009 about this 68 Branded Special at a dutch meeting. Owner Rob has been in touch with 2 other Branded Special owners meanwhile.

Being a Branded Mustang owner, here is what I know(or think I know)....
The Branded Mustang Kit was introduced in late 67-early 68(model year). The kit was used by dealers on new and used Mustang coupes. It could also be ordered for 65-66 coupes. The kit was was distributed by DSI Corp., Plymouth, Mich. directly to Ford Dealers. It consisted of:
Pre-cut, hand-sewn vinyl top - 15 different colors or patterns
2 Black and brass or silver and black C-pillar emblems - marked left and right
Left and right Screw-On quarter moldings - with Ford part numbers
Pre-cut "Throughbred" stripes in five colors (Red, white, black, blue, gold)
Two cans of Mastic glue
Ford instruction guide
This all came in a 3 ft long shipping tube from DSI.
I have five complete kits with four still in their original shipping tubes. Two are 65-66 and the rest are 67-68. the tops are all different and range from "pretty cool" to ""butt ugly". Keep in mind - It was the 60's. I also have stripes in red, white and gold.
I have instructions, Throughbred stripe identification charts, order form, invoices from DSI, a copy of an introduction ad in a dealer publication, and a copy of an ad in the Washington Post, July 17, 1968 introducing Shelton Ford's exclusive "California Mod Mustang". It's a Branded kit without the emblems. I also have a pair of promotional Branded cufflinks.
My Original Branded Mustang will probably be restored over the winter.

Update:
I recently acquired Branded kit number six. It is a 67-68 kit still in it's original shipping tube. it is a bright red, burlap texture looking material. It also has a set of silver and black emblems - first ones I've seen.
If anybody runs across any Branded stuff, please let me know.
Thanks,
Fran
