Title: Vent tube details
Post by: sgl66 on August 10, 2015, 07:01:41 PM
Installing a new vent tube with the ribs. I'm using the original mounting hardware and while removing, noticed what looks like silver paint on the ribs under the bracket. Were the ribs normally painted the length of the hose and in this case worn off? There is nothing on the end of the hose tucked inside the floor.

Maybe it's just a mark to tell the guy on the assembly line where to put the bracket if these were molded?

Have seen a paint mark on the hose before which seems to always line up with the clamp location if attached to the rear end hosing in that direction. Have never observed a silver mark for that purpose.

Possibly a different supplier/subcontractor I've never run across - from what I've been told the ribs or lack of them identified the supplier of the hose

Is the hose originally off the Mustang or from another source?

Yes, original hose from my Metuchen car. Replacement concours hose from Virginia Mustang on the left, my hose on the right. Everything lines up.

I believe as Jeff alluded to, the paint mark on the hose was to identify the clamp location to the assembly line workers.

This mark is described as the place to put the clamp in the assemblyline manual . Yellow is the color of the typical mark. Yellow is indicated in the assembly manual also so I believe it to be the most typical.
