Title: Choke on Hertz Car
Post by: ChrisV289 on August 27, 2015, 02:39:00 PM
So my dad is going back to using an Autolite 4100 on his Hertz Shelby automatic.  Right now he has a Demon carb on there with a Paxton supercharger.  I am providing him with a regular Autolite 4100 that a guy in Cali is going to rebuild into a hi-po carb.  .  I assume he is supposed to have a manual choke on the carb, is that correct?

Yes the hipo carbs used a manual choke. The automatic GT350's typically used the hipo Mustang carb.

Thanks Bob and Jeff.  I will let my dad know and be on the look out for a manual choke setup, he has the cable still.

I can't tell from the pic but would Shelby's still have a dash pot on the automatic Hertz cars?

Here is an old picture of a Hertz in 66 that I believe you can make out the dashpot and bracket on

Believe it is from the same or close to the same time period as the one your working on

I was wondering if the top carb in the pictured is a true HiPo carb? It doesn't appear to have the correct choke lever stop.

My bad I see the stop on both carbs.

Dashpot is actually "peeking out" over the front bowl in Jeff's top picture. Take a look....

Think that is likely what generated the follow up question ;)

Is this an aftermarket choke cable on 1502?

I don't know about after market but it not a typical 65 or 66 choke cable. It is not even like the 67 version although the knob looks like the 67 one.
