Title: 1969 Export Brace Part Number
Post by: ddonzella on September 21, 2015, 09:28:36 PM
Does the export brace for a 69 Shelby GT 350 have a part number and date code?  If so where would I locate that stamping?

I don't believe 69 Shelbys came with export braces but the C5ZZ replacement
as used on 67/68's with paired holes can be used.

Your 69 Shelby may have come to you with a single piece export brace but it didn't come from the factory with one. The 69/70 Shelby would come from the factory with the same sheet metal two piece version just like a 69 Mustang did. This is unlike the 65-68 versions. There were two versions of braces in 69 . The GT500 and all convertibles regardless of engine got the version with the small reinforcement welded underneath the sheet metal brace . The GT350 fastback got the style without the extra reinforcement spot welded on. FYI in 1970 all the Mustangs evolved to come with the brace that had the spot welded reinforcement. 70 Shelby's of course were modified 69 cars.   No on a engineering number on the sheet metal brace .Yes on the date code stamping which doesn't give the year but the month week and shift I believe.

The one piece brace on a 69/70 Shelby was a common day 2 upgrade that made the car handle a little better.

The good news is they came on hundreds of thousands of Mustangs and not the smaller gene pool that Shelby unique parts come from. You can use ether sheet metal type that I mentioned in my post and 99.9% will not know the difference but if you want to be technically correct then the one without the extra reinforcement spot welded on is the type you want for a 69/70 GT350 fastback.
