Just thought I'd post a picture of the original oil filter off my '89 GT.
I'll try to post other detail shots from the car as time permits.

That looks just like the original filter that was on my 83 GT.

That's probably because all 79-93 Mustangs had that style of Motorcraft filter. Fords Mercury and Lincoln too, for that matter.

Execpt for the "MOTORCRAFT" stamping on the end of the filter it looks just like the ones that can be bought at WalMart........recently a person sold an original BLACK oil filter with some type of stamp on it for a '65 Mustang over on the HYPO Mustang site for nearly $300.00!!
I have a $3.95 WalMart-purchased Motorcraft FL-1A on my '65 painted Black as the block is Black and it looks just fine.......

Thought the current MOTORCRAFT used a different Font and design (dashes between the words)
And of course, if you use a current Motorcraft it lacks the double crimp detail. Sure it filters the oil just fine ;)

Jeff, You are exactly right! I forgot completely about the double crimp unit on the early cars!
I guess when we restore my Niece's '86 GT Convertible the current FL-1A painted engine block color will be what we'll use.

That's neat to see what the original filter looked like for a 89.
I have the original oil filter from my 79 Pace car, I'm sure it
looks very similar.
I was at a old salvage yard the other day and found a 64 Galaxie
straight six that had a Autolite oil filter on it, C1AZ, I tryed to get it
off but couldn't, I'll get it on my next trip, I was shocked to see it!
The car has certainly been there a long time!

Nice! Thanks for posting.
