The included picture is of a 1968 mustang with a turn-signal hood that doesn't seem to fit quite right along the back edge. The sides and corners match up with the rest of the body panels like expected. Could this be a 67 hood on a 68 body? I was told these hoods were interchangeable but.....?
Has anyone else seen a hood with a big gap like this? Owner is unaware and there was no indication of any previous vehicle damage or panel replacements.

That looks like a hood hinge adjustment issue to me.

Owner stated the hinges were adjusted (down) but once the rear edge of the hood met up with the upper cowl vent edge, the corners of the hood were .5-.75" below the fender edges. .....?
It seems the hood has an extra concave shape to it.

It's warped. The warp may be reduced by removing the hood, set it on a flat surface and putting pressure on the rear center. Measure the side to side dimension at the rear on the car and off to confirm it is warped. There is another possibility, the sides where the hinges are located have pushed the center up, aka warped it on the car. This happened to a friend's 67 hood when the car got hit on the LH side. The statement of no "known" body damage may be questionable.

I believe 67 to 68 are fully interchangeable in terms of "fit....One major cosmetic difference is the 67 has the FORD letters on the front edge. I have a 68 hood on my 67 and just drilled holes to mount the letters...so I know it fits.

Thanks Jim, I think this is exactly what happened. After further inspection of the car, it appears the inner left fender wall has been replaced. The fender is probably a replacement as there is no repair work. Also, the mounting holes for the left hood hinge are slightly irregular, not detectable until the hinges were removed. The car was likely hit in the 70's and the hood has had the gap ever sence. Thanks for your expertise and insight.
