Title: 1970 hurst shift handle set screw
Post by: Wills70 on December 06, 2015, 11:17:28 AM
Hi, I'm looking for specs on the set screw hole as I need to add this to mine. I'm needing the set screw  diameter or size of the allen wrench that fits the screw and the diameter AND depth of the relief hole leading up to the threads. If someone could put the blunt end of a drill in the hole to size this AND get the depth of relief would be a great help.
Thanks Will

don't they make that knob already drilled as that isn't going to be easy to do to get that angle for hole correct.

I am a machinist by trade and run a high speed vertical machining center and program with CAD software, so putting the hole in is not a problem, I already have this handle so just need a few specs
Thanks Will

Will, using a machinest square measure back from the front of the handle on the right (passenger side) .520" and scribe a line. Measure up from the bottom .475" and scribe a line. Drill there with a #7 drill (13/64th) through to the 3/8th hole. Follow that drilling with a 23/64th 1.025" deep. Use a 1/4" x 20 NC tap for the set screw. My set screw is 1/2" long. This should be easy for you.... Dave
