Title: Underdash courtesy light bulb wattage
Post by: Josep on December 24, 2015, 02:54:34 AM
Hello all,

I'm trying to find the correct underdash courtesy lights wattage for my 200 Coupe '66.
The shop manual says 6C (candelas or candles) model num. 631
Have looked through Internet to convert candelas to watts but a strange (hi!) formula appears there.!
I also read somewhere that they originally had 8.8W bulbs.
What I have now is 5W bulbs in there, do I have to look for a higher wattage bulbs.?
Can someone guide me through..? Thanks!

The UL-631 lamp is rated at 14V, 0.63A, which (by the wattage formula, P=IE) comes out to 8.82W. I had a problem in fitting some replacement UL-631 lamps as the metal base was tapered out at the transition to the glass and would not fit easy. With all the green panic throughout the world, incandescent bulbs are getting difficult to find, so if you find a source, buy extra.

Josep : I know what you are saying. All of the MPC's give Applications, numbers and candle power, but not wattage. Wattage of course is a good indication of heat generated, which of course can be important for distortion of plastic lenses.
Here is what I have done, which I believe is the easiest way : go to "Bulb Town" site; in the upper right is a search box; enter the bulb number you want to find out about, and wallah, there is all of the information you'll need.

Hope this helps (and it's easy).
