Would clear zinc be the assembly line part finish ? Also the brass parts of these hoses is there something to use to brighten them without using steel wool or buffing. I would like to preserve the original finish.

The "old standby" Brasso will probably do what you want on the brass fittings.

You don't want them looking like polished pieces of dinnerware as a finished look. But shinny and nice is one step along the way. From there they can oxidize a little to return them (hopefully) to a nice even patina
+1 on the Brasso stuff is magic at times :)
Will post some pictures of the other fittings and ends later if someone doesn't do it before

as always a picture is worth a thousand words. The pics below are the parts after evaporust and the hose end the same treatment but with a little cleaning up. I just haven't seen what is expected, thanks. The 90* piece with the coarse thread looks to have clear zinc witch was threaded into a hose and protected. So it seemed that all of these pieces may have been zinc plated at one time.

Though the brass is tarnished it appears the the only parts that retain that look are the filler caps, the sight block and the fittings/adapters used to attach it to the two hoses. Looks like zinc plating except, of course, the aluminum shutoff caps
Since the example I found was from a car posted in its own thread I posted additional AC related pictures there though we can continue the discussion in this thread. Will also post those same pictures to this thread

Im going to guess I got lucky the one flex line has a engineering number on it and one does not, is this one a replacement ? And would the hoses be the same between 67 and 68 ? This hose closely resembles the hose in Jeffs pic above coming out of the bottom of the compressor and going forward.

While we are discussing A/C details,I would like to point (since Jeff's pictures make it convenient) out the slight difference on the top between the two small charge port caps . This is typical from what I have seen on 67 and 68. All of the undisturbed ones I have seen did not match ether. I am not so sure on other years.

The third picture hose is a modified one not factory. The date codes and mfg info is printed on the hose. The engineering number is printed on small white vinyl labels . You can see reminents of the white labels in some of Jeff's pictures. They typically are seen on the radiator support end of the hose but sometimes on the firewall end. The hose going to the condenser with the curved one piece end will many times have the engineering number stamped into the crimped metal end.

Great question seeing that you originally specified 67. I jumped at the opportunity to show the best pictures of the fittings and end I came to.

if you mean the long flexible hoses then yes there was a transition having to do with a different style crimped ends between 67 and 68.

I have several versions from my Dearborn 1967 Cougars and 1968 San Jose / Dearborn Cougars.

Thanks Scott, the sight glass part on the left Im guessing is the 67 part since the other type is in Jeff's 68 pics. Is the brass ended hose the 67 part in the second pic ? Also is the hose that goes from the compressor to the condenser (short hose) the same rough exterior as the hoses shown ?

The one on the left matches what I've found so far (have about a dozen 67 pictures so far)
Also is the hose that goes from the compressor to the condenser (short hose) the same rough exterior as the hoses shown ?
The short hose is typically thicker with allot less texture from the ones I've seen
