Hi Guys
new thread to keep topics unique
from the photos here on site there is an unrestored 302 2v alternator side photo of a bracket of some kind mounted to the head that then takes the alternator pivot bolt and spacer...
I need to know what that looks like exactly and what the alternator bracket that goes with that as a set looks like.
ill attach that picture to lead in with, then the photos of what I have at the moment and maybe we can work out what's missing.
I brought a new bolt, a spacer, and bracket kit from mustangs plus, but I believe I may have the wrong parts for 1970 302 2v Windsor
let me know what you think and thanks
-
next attachments are
1. picture of new alternator, bolt and spacer that came with kit. note no bracket on head at all
2. picture showing the alternator bracket from water pump to alternator and the new bolt and spacer this all appears to line up regarding the Bolt hole but the spacer is way too short to align the alternator pully with the crank pully.. note bthe chrome long socket on the water pump, this was the original owners spacer they used to make alternator align with crank pully.
3. third pic is side view showing the new spacer being too short and the old spacer being the chrome socket extensions as a comparison on the water pump there
this is why I think im missing a bracket for 1970 model that bolts on the head first and any associated bracket that alternator and water pump need to match
any ideas on this guys appreciated...
linked to the post before with the picture from this site, that seems to have a bracket on the head... which the alternator bolt and spacer screw into... but there is only the one pic and no bracket showing for the water pump to alternator so that's where im stuck
:)
big thanks, I did search site for pictures first before posting. only found reference to a 351 bracket T piece which is not going to help in 302 application...

The May 75 MPC shows:
D2OZ-10156-B front bracket
D0OZ-10A336-A rear bracket
D1AZ-8A652-A spacer
The spacer photos are from an auction. The seller listed the overall length as 4-7/8. This may have been a cut-to-fit application, but that MPC does not specifically state that or provide a measurement.
The front bracket photo is from West Coast Classic Cougar. They have it listed for all 1970-73 302/351/Boss 302. They list original P/N D0OE-10156-A.
"Eyeballing" it from your photos, it looks like your spacer might work if you get the correct brackets.

Hi WT095
right on ...unreal.... that's what im looking for.... thanks heaps...
again this site does it again....exactly what I need.. , totally cool and im off to the local mustang man to show him the photos you sent and see what he has in the spare parts department.
its a very small set of people and parts bin Australia compared with usa....
Forgive my ignorance, but what is the may 1975 MPC exactly...how does that work and where do I get one.

MPC = Master Parts Catalog
A really thick book (some versions in print can be close to 3 foot thick) that showed (when published) all the parts Ford carried at the time for replacement. The book is basically assembled in two parts. Illustrations (exploded view in most cases) and the text section.
These were printed in single year and multiple year printings covering passenger car, trunk or other lines (like Mercury or Lincoln) The closer to the publish date to the production of the car your interested in the closer the information is to what was used on the assembly line verse just a part that will fit and work in an application
So the 1975 (the last printing) would not be as accurate as, for example, a 1970 version. The 1975 version is available though many vendors on a popular auction site while single year and those printed during the classic Mustang production period are much more expensive and difficult to find. Many hundreds of dollars

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the may 1975 MPC exactly...how does that work and where do I get one.
Ford published Master Parts Catalogs (MPC) for various divisions, such as Ford, Lincoln/Mercury, trucks, etc. They were distributed to Ford sevice departments for use in ordering service parts. The Ford ones were published and updated on a yearly basis, and eventually consolidated into one publication covering 1965-1972. The final edition of the 65-72 catalog was published in May of 1975. This edition is easy to find on CD/DVD, and unopened copies come up on ebay periodically. Older editions are harder to come by and more costly.
This is but a brief synopsis, I'm sure others can explain much better than I can the procedure by which the originals were distributed and updated.
By the way, the 65-72 edition is huge - thousands of pages. Takes up about two banker's boxes. An electronic version is less expensive and much easier to use, and searchable. The electronic ones lack that nice old-book smell, though :D

Jinx!

ha thank you both very much..
I will look for electronic version of the book of all knowledge....
on a side note I discovered my crank case is an 87 model E7TE, this whas or is the supped up crate engine the car came with.... so that's miles and miles away from 1970.. :(
back on the parts you sent
one thing I noticed printing out the photos...
the front bracket is part D2OE-10156-B
but the part itself has what looks like a letter A on it and the file itself is called D0OE-10156-A
is it possible the front bracket part number might be the one with the letter A.. ?
sorry for any confusion

The front bracket was listed by WCCC as being D0OE-A, which is a production/assembly part. The service part listed in the 75 MPC is D2OZ-B. Without going into too much detail (there's lots of threads covering this), service parts are numbered differently from production parts, even though they may be physically identical. Often the part numbers will be only differ by the fourth character in the prefix being a "Z". But in this case the suffix is also different. Sometime even the base part number changes!

This is a 70-71 DOOE-10156-A alternator bracket. It also carries the FORD in the oval logo. More pictures and application on the Mustang Tek site. Brian

AndrewOscar - note that the prefix for this part number is actually D0OE ("dee-zero-oh-ee") if you need to enter it into a search. The second character is a zero, for 1970. The typeface ford used when stamping the part makes it looks like two letter "O"s but it's not.

AndrewOscar I think, in your current situation, you might be better served with a few of copies of the different Assembly Manuals printed for the 1970 Mustang
Just a suggestion
-
Want to thank you all, its a steep learning curve and ill get some manuals as suggested specific to 1970
seems that was a tricky year in itself for a few reasons like Cleveland coming in but Windsor there too so simple brackets can be strange.
Thanks for your patience :)

Hi Guys great result.
1970 302 2v Windsor alternator brackets and mounts Success story, thanks again to this site,,and your help
want to thank you all for your help... look at the result... pictures speak a thousand words..
for future reference exact parts to make this fit are
Front Bracket that bolts to the head. D0OZ-10A336-A .Cast iron.
But alloy will also work from later parts see diagram. The shape varies slightly after 1971 last cast iron was (- D1OE-10A336-AA) and aluminium ones were produced for various model lines cars trucks etc but essentially perform same task and are interchangeable as long as you take care of the larger bot hole as mentioned.
Mustang II was a breed all of its own as shown by diagram, completely different piece and bolts on the head differently and separate discussion.
Note left most hole is a larger bolt diameter for 1970 7/16 the other is 5/16. ( Power steering main bolt is also 7/16 for 1970, another subtle difference for this year, 69 was 5/16)
Other hardware
Adjusting curve bracket D0OE-10145-A
Main Front Bracket D0OE-10156-A
from there standard Bolt and spacer will match for the main Bolt. Note its 7/16 Bolt.
Warning on the main front bracket too, there are two types that look very similar but they are not identical, I am chasing that explanation so you don't get caught there, ill repost on that in a day or so wen I find out what that was exactly but its basically the angle of the bracket itself is off despite looking identical.

1970 302 2v Windsor alternator brackets and mounts...............
Front Bracket that bolts to the head. D0OZ-10A336-A - D1OE-10A336-AA Cast iron but alloy will also work from later parts
Nice work - would suggest that you remove the D1OE-AA reference since its not correct for the 68 up application you show in the first pictures
Found an example 70 F code for pictures today
Hope this helps
