What is the correct trunk mat for a oct 64 SJ FB? Speckled? Plaid? What material?

The MCA Judging rules state 64.5 early 1965 speckled, stitched mat with burtex backing. I don't know if a SJ F/B with a scheduled build date of October 1964 would fall into this category.

Which is why I asked the experts!

Don't believe I've ever seen a fastback with anything but the plaid rubber-backed.
The rule above has been worded that way since at least the '97 rule book, might be something to review.

An October 64 San Jose would not be a 64 1/2. Also I believe the rules reflect only one plant. Not unusual (over the years) for MCA

The rules also mention EARLY 1965. I would consider the October 1964 Mustang as such. Charles the issue probally does need to be addressed at our rules meeting.

Oct 7th if it matters...

I was also thinking that the fastback mats would be different length than the coupe, so regardless of build date that would be different tan the 64.5 coupe/conv. And more than likely be plaid.

Yes they are different and yes never have I seen anything but rubber plaid in a 64 1/2 through 66 in an original San Jose car

If it helps any, my SJ September 1964 coupe had the plaid rubber mat

Your September 1964 S/J coupe isn't the only September 1964 built Mustang with the plaid trunk matt. I know of a Gold card judge that has a September 1964 built S/J convertible that had the plaid trunk matt.
