Does anyone know what the correct crank pulley is for a late 67 dearborn 390, with P/S, A/C and no smog??
What identification would be marked on it??
Thanks

I have checked several of my resources, and only found 3 that address your application exactly; they are the 1967 Master Parts Catalog (dated January of 1967); the 1960-68 MPC (dated June 1968); and the 1965-72 MPC (dated May 1975). Unbelievably, all 3 agree. This is unusual as by the 1975 printing, many parts have typically been superseded by newer parts that "will work" but not be indicative of the original part.
All 3 show Service Part # C4AZ-6A312-B as being for a 1967, 390 Mustang, with A/C, with or without Power Steering and without Thermactor Emission. Further, the first 2 sources noted, both show this as a Triple Sheave Pulley, the outer one being 7-3/4" O.D., and the inner one being 6-7/64" O.D. Further, they note that it uses one 1/2" belt and two 3/8" belts.
Unfortunately, none list a casting number for this pulley. I have not checked the Engine Assembly Manual, but possibly it may note some Engineering/Assembly Part Numbers.
Sorry I couldn't find more.

Thanks Bob, I came across a reference to C4AZ-6A312-B on a shelby forum. Apparently it is a rare pulley and unmarked with any sort of id .....probably why its rare.
When I saw it was a service part, I wondered if the part it replaced, would have any id.
With those measurements, I might stand a better chance of finding one.
Does anyone have too many of them?? :)
-
I have one. They are not metal stamped but originally ink stamped and you know what happens to the ink when the part starts to oxidize ;) . Same one used on 67 GT500 w/AC and I am hesitant to sell because it is part of a set.Look and see if you can find one some place else first . If you can't then contact me.

Thank you for the offer, 196667Bob was very helpful and pointed me in the right direction. I now have one on the way.
When you say part of a set, do you recall the water pump pulley id?? I have C6AE 8509-A. Which I think is correct.

This pulley installs over the harmonic balancer and has its own timing marks.
My existing timing pointer will not work. Any pointers to the correct one??
-
First, I didn't ask before, but assumed, you do have Factory A/C as opposed to Dealer, correct ? That being the case, and once again using the MPC's (in this case, the 1960-68 and the 1965-72), the Pulley you have (marked C6AE-8509-A, and a diameter of 5.86") is only correct for S Codes built Before 01/09/67. S Codes built after 01/09/67 are shown to use a Water Pump Pulley marked C6AE-8509-F (diameter 6.23"), Part # C6AZ-8509-C. Apparently, with or without PS makes no difference as it is not noted; only with or without A/C or T/E.

Yes, it is factory A/C ... but built 08/17/67 :(
One step forward, two steps back. At least I know whats needed now.
Any ideas on the timing pointer??
And thanks again Bob

Any ideas on the timing pointer??
Guess it depends on what the question is
have used them often and think they are good to have available. ;)

That is one possibility . There are others but no so sure they are the best ones for your application.

Any ideas on the timing pointer??
On the Timing Pointer, the Engine Assembly Manual shows a 390 Mustang with Factory Air to use pointer C5AE-6023-A (Assembly Line Part No.). The 1967 MPC shows Service Part Number C5AZ-6023-A, and also shows it to be 3-5/64" long and 2" wide. It shows the pointer for "without A/C" to be 3-1/16" long. I can hardly believe that 1/64" can make a difference by itself, so it must be also to do with the geometry of the part.
As 390's in Mustangs are not my strong suit, maybe someone who is familiar with them can help you further.

That helps me out a lot.
Thanks again

The nos crank pulley that 196667Bob helped me with arrived today.
The pulley is stamped with C5AE-E.
Inside the original box, was also the correct timing pointer.
Thanks again everyone.

Glad this worked out well for you. Especially the added bonus of the pointer which you had inquired about.

While we're on the subject, is there any way to post images of these items and what we should typically see for this application?
-
As requested.

Very nice pristine service part. Thank you for sharing.
-
This is the same pulley that is on my 4/67 390 with a/c p/s and thermactor.
-
Very cool - glad you found that you needed.
-
Anyone else got one laying around they want to sell? I need the same pulley. Thanks

Put a post in the Wanted area and see what happens. Would suggest doing the same on every Mustang and Ford site that will let you - Bigger net and all that
