Title: Fresh air vent cable clip
Post by: mtinkham on March 04, 2016, 01:30:04 PM
Anybody have a picture of the clip that retains the driver's side fresh air vent cable to the dash bracket?  I am working on a July 67 Metuchen coupe.  Attached is a picture of a clip that I have, but it did not seem to fit well.  I did not want to break the cable.  Thanks in advance.

That looks to me like the emergency brake cable bracket. The vent bracket is closed, not open ended.

Thanks ....but I was referring to the clip...not the bracket.  Is that the right clip for the (fresh air vent) cable?

Yes that is the correct clip.

Old topic.  On my 68 the clip holding the pull knob in place has come free and is sliding down the cable.   Is there a particular trick to secure the clip to hold the pull knob in place on the bracket?

The clip slides into a grove and locks. Often the plastic retainer on the cable is broken. A good picture of what you have would be helpful.

That clip is only used on the plastic style fresh air vent cable, which was a '68 item.  Maybe it was introduced in late '67?

I do not know when the changeover was but most of the latter 67 seem to have the plastic cable mounting. Not one of Fords better ideas, I am sure it was a cost or assembly speed change.

According to the part listed on NPD site, the change over seems to be 4/3/67 and the part is listed for 67 and 68s

Here are a few pictures of my vent cable and it indeed is broken. The plastic larger ring closer to the knob has broken away from the rest of the cable so the clip won't stay in place. It appears all you do is move the clip over the groove just behind the larger ring and push up to secure the clip in place.

Guess this is another part in need of replacing. You're right Marty - this plastic over time I'm sure gets brittle and breaks. Not a good design at all.

As I thought it is broken as most are. You will have to replace it.

There's a decent reproduction available.
