Title: Installing Interior A/C Vents on non-air '67
Post by: drummingrocks on April 13, 2016, 10:35:55 AM
Hi guys,

I finally tracked down a really nice set of '67 A/C interior vents for my '67 coupe.  I always wanted to add air to it, but wanted it to look like the car came with factory air.  My question is: How do the interior vents mount?  I've looked at the assembly manual, but it's not very helpful.  I tried to install the passenger's side dash vent (near the kick panel) the other night, and was hoping that all of the hardware from my non-A/C trim plate would transfer over.  The nut for my non-A/C part is way too large to thread onto the A/C vent.  It almost looks like a small spacer was used, and then a smaller nut was installed to hold the whole fixture in place, whereas the non-air part just bolted directly to the dash metal with a large nut.

Also, I haven't had the center block-off plate (above the radio, center of dash) off in quite a while, but from what I remember, it is basically sandwiched in place by the dash trim on one side and the instrument cluster on the other.  How do the two swivel vents mount on an A/C car?  Since they're a good bit thicker/heavier than the non-air part, it seems like they would have to be bolted to the dash somehow.  There is an illustration in the assembly manual, but I wasn't sure if what was in the manual ended up being what actually happened on the assembly line.  This is a Metuchen '67, built in December '66.

Thanks for any help!  I'll try to get some pictures of these parts later on this evening.

Yes the RH outlet used a special wedge shaped spacer. I'll see if I have one. Will you be in St Augustine?

Thanks, Marty.  No, I wasn't planning on going to the Florida show.
