Title: 1965-66 LUGGAGE RACK ASSEMBLY HARDWARE
Post by: 196667Bob on May 12, 2016, 05:34:40 AM
Recently, I purchased, what I believe is an Original Ford Luggage Rack for 1965 and 1966 Mustangs. I believe it is original based on several things; 1) it looks like that shown in the advertising pictures from 1965; 2) it came with the original instructions; 3) it appears to be chrome plated steel as opposed to Stainless Steel (not based on its magnetic qualities, because many Stainless Steels are magnetic, but because of its appearance inside of the tubes).

While the Instructions show the sizes, lengths and type of screws for attachment to the Deck Lid, they do not show the sizes, types and lengths of the 14 screws required for assembly of the individual pieces (which normally are always found assembled). However, when it was shipped to me it was shipped disassembled, which wouldn't have been an issue if there were 2 sets of 6 screws and one set of two screws, with each set being different (I'm assuming they would be). Unfortunately, the hardware I received only had one set of 6 that had identical screws, and the remaining screws (which numbered more than the 8 needed) were each unique.

Hopefully, someone has a known Original Luggage Rack for a 1965-66 (67's are slightly different, and I doubt that the Repo's are assembled as the Originals were) on which you could furnish me the size, type (sheet metal or machine screw), head size and type(oval, round, flat), and lengths of the 14 screws needed as shown in the attached drawing. Note, that for "talking" I call the six individual tubes oriented front to back "vertical", and the two tubes that go side to side as "horizontal". That said, I am again assuming that the 6 screws that attach the front horizontal tube to the 6 individual vertical tubes are all the same, that the 6 screws that attach the 6 individual vertical tubes to the rear horizontal tube, and the 2 screws that attach the Rear horizontal tube to the front horizontal "U" shaped tube are respectively each the same.

Note that the drawing that I have attached is actually from a 1967 Luggage Rack as it is dated 11-66, and shows the "angled" feet that are not found on the 1965-66 Luggage Racks, but this drawing lends itself to better show what I am needing.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob

I can hardly believe this - 58 people have viewed this Post and no one has an original Luggage Rack from which they can furnish me the screw sizes that were used ??

How about on the Repo's - what is used on them ?

Thanks,

Bob

Bob,

I could not get the screws out, looks like the previous owner who installed the luggage rack used some kind of thread sealant on the screws...they won't budge.

Here are some pictures of the screws on the rear of the rack and those along the front edge. I hope these help.
