Title: 65 color combo
Post by: DKutz on June 08, 2016, 05:59:07 PM
Surfing auction listings and saw this....

Is green ext with red stripes ordinal combo?  I have never seen a green car with red stripes, usually white

IMHO yes this could be an original combination. Have seen dark blue with red stripes and other green with red stripped examples over the years.  One of those cars that could be described as rare because it was unpopular

This is off topic, but in light of our discussion of fog light switch positions in another thread, I thought I'd point out the underdash switch on this car.  Of course, there is no way to tell from the information provided if this car is an original GT.  The rally pac is another issue.   ::)

Don't you mean "Santa Special"?

The color combination is very sharp, IMHO.  However, the description reads as professionally restored to MCA concours standards, which makes me wonder whether the red stripes were original and duplicated or changed to red to enhance the red-striped tires.

I don't have my book as it is still in a box to be unpacked but since it has the 5 gauge cluster and the deluxe glove box, shouldn't the seats be deluxe as well?

It has the correct 5 dial black camera case cluster and glove box for a 65 GT with standard interior, but the rally pac should be the low profile style.

Was going to point that out as well but someone beat me to it...Being that it appears to be interior color code 28, is it me or does the dash pad look black?  I have 28 and mine is green...Also does the top of the door metal look different from the bottom on the passenger side?

Sharp color combo... I'm sure that the rocker stripes were probably White that he changed to Red...but anything is possible.

Other poster is correct... The car should have the "Low Profile" Rally-Pac...if he had the 5 dial cluster... not the High Profile one as pictured.. People always get that one wrong for some reason on '65 cars....

I love Ivy Gold...!

IMHO We need to remember that rally packs were fairly popular with dealers as an add-on installed at the dealership. This can produce exemptions to the "rule" of high or low only usage

Chris, that is VERY nice (except the book looks a bit out of place).  8)

That was the day we replaced the carpet and needed something heaving to hold it in place...After a year it has settled down.... :D

Non GT that run on the rockers. When did first come out? Dealer installed?

It looks like the introduction of rocker stripes available through dealers lagged several months behind the official introduction of the factory GT package in April 1965. The May 1965 Merchandising News  indicates fog lights, tail pipe extensions and GT badges were available, but states "Triple Accent Stripes will be available soon.  Details will be published in June Merchandising News."

Thanks I guess there is no way I could get by adding a set on my D code and not lose points.
