Another newbie question. I was going through some pictures Pete Morgan took when checking out a car for me before I purchased it. First, the car has had a lot of work done to it, so I am still trying to figure out what is right and what is not. I came across this picture and believe I understand the tag info. I did see an earlier thread about the tag date (Dec 66) being so close to the cars build date (Jan 67)...this is close too. [My intake is 6M1 - is this reasonable for my build date?] My question is regarding the numbers that are cast into the axle housing. I have not been able to determine what these mean. Also wondering if this could be the original...any input is welcomed.

Hi Bill,
I did a research for mine weeks ago. Here is some info.
WES-F for Mustangs between 67-70. 3.00 is the ratio. 9 is diameter of the ring. 28 Splines
Date built id 6MC that is 1966 December 3rd week.
The rest of info in pics attached.
See that all matches with your axle.
Good luck,
Josep

I noticed the tag is on the opposite side.

Thanks Josep & TOB - I was able to decipher the tag. I was more interested in the number cast into the housing cover....it appears to be "015 52" or "DIF 52". I am not sure what that means?
I will look further into the placement of the tag when I take it apart and rebuild it. I believe the illustration is just that...an illustration. I will be looking for real examples.
Thanks

Oh! yes Bill, DIF 52 looks to me. Sorry I have no info about that.

that may be a foundry mold number.

that may be a foundry mold number.
Good guess +1
Not sure if there should be any importance placed on such markings but that's up to the individual.

Thanks guys...I had no idea if it was anything "meaningful" or identifying. I would guess the tag is original, but have no way to verify. It is consistent with my axle and date appears acceptable for my cars build date.

I believe DIF is Dearborn Iron Foundry - Fords River Rouge plant.
