Title: Date decoding of a PS pump tag
Post by: denonito on July 25, 2016, 01:29:35 AM: Is there a resource here to decode the bottom line on the PS pump tag?
The tag I have, I am assuming( I have had my '67 Coupe for 30 years so...), is from my original pump.
I will attach picture.

Would this be correct for my 1967 San Jose, "A" code, Auto, Coupe? or is there a decoder in the library?
This thread was the only one that came up on a search, but maybe my search terms didn't match the library terms.

Looks like it would decode as a pump assembled on December 13th 1966 - second shift (Ford supplied pump) . There is an article in the Library that focus's on decoding dates but the PS pump is not one that was included. Maybe the next version or second part

No problem - started a new thread since this one deals with color and paint

Not a color question...even after 30 years, I remember looking at the pump on my '67 thinking...it's kinda blue-ish, but defintely not post 67 FORD blue.
I found a tag in my pile of Mustang stuff, I am assuming was from '67 "A" code coupe (pump is long gone..as a core for a rebuild).
You seemed to know the build date for the pump. Someone had a link to Stangersite, but he doesn't have the bottom line decoded.
Your tag seems similar to the one I found, the bottom line is 6M13B on mine, so is that 1966 build from the first digit, and then?
Week or plant or.. stangersite just says mfg info...
Could be Dec 13 1966 2nd shift.

denonito asked a question in the thread related to color of the ps pump. I responded and split it from the other thread making a new thread. He must not have responded through the notification (or didn't have that option chosen) so he asked the question again in the Color of PS Pump thread where he collected a couple of more responses :)

So I collected those and added them to the new thread so hopefully our new member will find them here in his own thread. All is good 8)

My guess is it is a TRW pump and the leading character, which would be the month is actually the "1" in the middle line. I think typically this was found on the bottom line? I'm not sure why yours has it in the middle.

The rest is "W" for Wooldridge (TRW), "25" is the date, "7" is 67. I'm no expert and that's just based on a bit of research.

Hope it helps. I am sure others can give a more knowledgeable opinion.

I'm thinking that there were a lot of Ford suppliers that included "Ford" or "FoMoCo" on parts they made, TRW included. I guess though that is just instinct and I would have to do some research to find something specific.

I know that some of the parts I designed for Ford in the late 80's were this way. Ford paid us for the design and had that requirement.

For some reason, I was under the (mis-) impression that the '67 PS pumps that were marked with the "FoMoCo" were the Ford pumps, and the TRW pumps were marked differently. That not apparently being the case, what are observable differences between the two pumps ? IE, is there an easy way to distinguish between the two other than the tag ?
