C4ZA-5556-R 270E5 Springs on my 66 A code GT (Metuchen) with buck tag of K28 - VIN 6T07A135090
Does anyone have any example pictures of these leaf springs and any markings/daubs?
I can see what appears to be white marks on the U-bolts but can't be sure (very faint).
Still working with evaporust...
Thanks

Though hard to see in the pictures, these appear to be red "daubs" maybe. Just checking in with what I'm finding and hoping I can get some confirmation.
Thanks again,
Allen

If you soak those in evapo-rust, the marks will come up. Does look like red.

I did this a few months ago, would be best to separate all the leafs and soak each one separately . I took a 4 inch pvc pipe, cut it in half and capped the ends. Make sure you use something to counter balance it. The bigger leafs were a challenge and had to do 1/2 at a time.

Another suggestion is to make a frame with 2x4's, then lay down a couple layers of heavy mil plastic. Fill with evapo-rust and put the leaves in.

What I usually see on the U bolts is pink paint marks. Here is a picture of a C4ZA-R spring from my 4500 mile Aug 64 Dearborn car.

Think this thru, especially the end of the process. What are you going to do with the liquid when you are done? It's a modern version of "getting the Genie back in the bottle".

I put a similar fixture together and submerged a whole hood on my 67. It took about 20 gallons and this using the hood skin from another junk hood to minimize the amount of liquid needed. Instead of EvapoRust, I bought another more reasonably priced product that also didn't remove paint. It's called Rust911 and sells for about $60 as a CONCENTRATE so it makes about 16 gallons. I also got a bottle of their "Metal Shield 2009" to guard against flash rusting. I swear by this stuff...I've used EvapoRust and it works great but needing 20 gallons becomes cost prohibitive at my budget.

I built my fixture elevated on top of saw horses and simply siphoned off the product when I was finished. Now, getting the 16 gallons of Rust911 back into a one gallon bottle, that wasn't so easy! Maybe a Genie could have done it, but I had to use 16 one-gallon bottles (good thing I save old washer fluid bottles AND I own an auto repair shop ;) )

"Auot"? Is that a French car?
And you got the point - think. The Genie won't help one bit.

Thanks for the pictures! I will look closer at the u-bolts.
I haven't built anything for the leafs yet, but will take all into consideration. I keep my evapo-rust in a 70 quart cooler, so maybe I can get it back in there...

Looks like the best I'm going to get on the "daubs".

How are the dates on these deciphered please?
-
The dates should be in a number format. Like 150 is the 150th day of the year or May 30th

Did you look in the library:

Great suggestion...thanks.

Evaporrust works good but when doing a large item like leaf springs and having to fill a large container for the purpose it can get pricey. If money is no object then it is a very good product . A comparable product for less money is Rust911.It comes as a concentrate that you mix with water. Both work Great.

This is one of my leafs after a 2 day soak in Evapo-Rust

I know Turnall asked this in 2016, but My A-code GT, the vin of which puts it within a week of Turnall’s, certainly has RED paint on the leafs. My car was undercoated and that preserved the red paint. I picked off a little undercoating and here’s what I found.
I should also mention mine have exactly the same markings as Turnall’s, including the 270E5 date code!

Thanks!
