Title: 70 Power steering pump question

Were there 2 different power steering pumps used in 1970? The reason I ask is mine has a pressure fitting in the back that's 3/8" inverted flare, when I look at other pumps most seem to have a male fitting sticking out the back. Looking at CJ Pony Parts website they show 2 different pressure hoses, one with a male threaded end (for my style) and one with a threaded nut (for the other style). Was this a '70 only thing?

Trick question, depends upon the engine.  ;)


1970 F, G, H, and M engines should have gotten the the pump with the larger, offset pressure fitting.

1970 Q and R codes used the common pump with smaller centered pressure fitting. Your typical Ford installed power steering pump 1967-1969, and 1971-73.

I don't know about 1970 6 cylinder engine power steering pumps.  :-\

The MPC page states 1970 6 Cylinders & 428's used the same pump HBA-BR.

Which version of the MPC are you using?

In many cases the MPC will list what will work as a service part (what they had available in the system with the MPC was printed) rather than what was installed at the factory but not in all cases. Depends on how its listed in the MPC and if earlier (year of build) confirm it IMHO.

Thanks - now I see the cross reference and page. Now wonder if this was indeed what was done on the line but going to be difficult to find a 6 cylinder PS car to check
