Date is off if its for your Jan 69 built Mustang so at least that suggests that it's not correct for your car.

Box is for manual correct? SMB D

There were two different manual steering boxes and in turn numbers used in 69. The difference was the gear ratio 19-1 or 16 - 1

SMB D was the "lighter" of the two

The reason I asked was that the car was converted from manual to power steering. when I looked at tag and tried to decode the box was manual.

Are you concerned getting the correct one (right number) for a CJ with manual steering or just manual steering?

My main concern is that this steering box is the correct part, secondary would be the date code. I could get a tag through Kevin Marti.

My concern for you is that its the correct (right ratio) for your application seeing that you have a CJ and not (for example) a manual steering 2V 302.

When you say lighter of the two what are you referring too? You said boxes could be 19-1 and 16-1. Which do I have and is it correct or incorrect for my car.

Trying to find that out

What I've found so far

- Scott H at the 428CJ Registry wrote 7 years ago that either was available on the 69 CJ  and it was not part of the competition (mach I) suspension package. Trying to confirm that.

- Have not been able to find a single Marti report for a 69 CJ with the manual steering optional ratio (if the above it true) ordered or listed.

- The 19-1 is not what was used on other performance applications with manual steering like the Boss 302  from what I can find

- Checked through a bunch of buildsheets and they appear to be of no help

- Haven't found anything to refute Scott's statement at this point
