I got this lower boot with the car and because I tried and could not install it, major pain, it sits on the shelf. Look familiar ? Original equipment, Ford service part or a aftermarket reproduction ? Thanks, Brian

Not a repro since it has the engineering number molded in.
According to the info here, it's a service part because of the "-A" though.

Thanks Racer for the link. I read some of the other relevant posts and yes likely a Ford part with the exact info a little murky. My interest and reason for asking is the little known or seen bracket that holds the reverse wire to the shifter plate. Available thru some of the vendors and seems like a good addition. Without the bracket the wire, it seems, is unsupported all the way from the firewall to the shifter boot opening ? Thanks, Brian

Well Brian, I don't have experience with that wire retainer, but Jack's comments were an interesting read.
The only 4 speed Mustang I owned was a 66.
Without the retainer, the wire has no support downstream of the firewall retainer like you say.
If there's an engineering number on it, I'd expect it to be on the black plastic portion.
specialed probably knows since he was the impetus behind the reproduction.
I guess there's so few nice used 69 boots and wire retainers around since everybody wanted a Hurst shifter back in the day which wouldn't end well for the 69 lower boot.

Yes Brian - correct.

no markings on the wire holder strap I had made & its also used on 69 3-speed shifter. I only found 2 of those straps nos & I had eddie R. make them since they are very hard to find. Also 67-68 shifters use 2of them so it was a worth while part to make.

Just to clarify, a part number on the plastic portion of an original retainer was what I was asking about being present or not.

I remember Ed comparing a 67/68 version and a 69/70 version that we found at Carlisle some years ago. The 67/68 version had a slightly shorter metal strap then the 69/70 one if I remember correctly. It was very hard to tell the difference between the two unless side by side let alone bolted the trans under a car.
