Title: Document listing part colors
Post by: RogerArrick on September 03, 2010, 05:50:39 PM
I saw someone had a printed list of most parts on the car and what color they got painted.  Does anyone have this document they could share?

Let's start with the car year, exterior color, interior color, style, build date, plant, and options.  There are so many iterations that there is no single answer.  John

I think the document said 67-73 and it included most engine parts in alphabetical order.  I figures this was something that someone compiled and was common knowledge.

Have seen a couple of these published on the web and even one sold through some of the parts vendors. IMHO not something I suggest owners use as a guide for a restoration - Way too much new information and as mentioned, way too many variables for one guide to represent all plants, time periods and suppliers so far

As a very basic start try the MCA Judging Rules

There is no such guide that exists for any year Mustang that gives you the correct finishes, paint and markings for every single item on the car.  And I will go even further to say that it will NEVER exist.  And just like Jeff mentions with the different manufacturing plants you can not come up with a general rule on many different items.  I get this question alot actually...from people who want a printed guide on how to restore a concourse Mustang.  I wish it was that easy.

There are mistakes but a relatively good guide

It's at least 20% incorrect or old info (been on the web for a fairly long time)  The site owner and I've talked a number of times about the need to improve and update the info before too many use it at face value.
