Title: Location of VIN stamp on a '68 289 block
Post by: Oz390 on September 18, 2010, 09:13:58 AM
Anyone have a photo of where the partial VIN stamp would be on a '68 289?

San Jose car, if it matters.

Know "back of the block" but with the engine in, and dirt, grime, a specific area to look at would be helpful.  Need to see if one exists on a Cal Special I just bought for Queensland registration.... need both body VIN and an engine number to register here.

Don't want to stamp a new number if the original is there somewhere... would think it "should" be as its a later 68 model (late april 68 build date).  Looked with the shops mechanic for a while today, neither of us found it, but were not sure exactly where it "should" be... and prefer not to pull the engine to get a better view.

Flat spot on top of the block, right behind the back of where the intake would be.  Stampings are faint to deep.
