Looking to see what the correct casting number should be on my SJ Oct 64 A code automatic transmission should be.
Should it be:
C4GF-12127-B, C5GF-12127-C, or C5AF-12127-N? Also I assume the date code should be close to the engine assembly build date correct?
Thanks,
Chris

Looking at all 65 dist verses engine assembly dates I have records of I offer the following for you to apply
Found the span between the engine assembly date and the dist assembly date from 6 days to 60 days

Two questions: where did you get these part numbers from, and why aren't you using the forum's library?

A restoration guide book and the Mustang Tek website. I did have a friend a few minutes ago who has a car close in production of mine send me some photos of his car and it appears to be the C5GF part number but can't read the letter after 12127. Looks someone might have blasted the casing. The date code is not readable either

I just saw your spreadsheet Jim, you have two listed; C5AF-B and the C5GF-C. What is the difference besides the diaph column?

If the Restoration Guide is the one Tom and Earl put together then the information is basically the same as the 72 MPC and we know from other threads what that can produce.
Sorry don't have a 65 MPC but you might just want to take a look at Jim's work

Might be time period related - will let Jim handle the details :)

Let's ask the obvious question. What do you have now?

Looking at my source materials, the curves might be different, and the internals of the diaphragm to obtain those curves different as well. A DD-9 is an older type of diaphragm, DD-190 being newer (both are difficult to locate and are expensive).

There is some confusion created by Ford as to 64 1/2 and 65 Mustangs all being called 65 models. C5GF-12127-C was show as being a replacement for C4GF-12127-B but for 65. That may be due to the 64 1/2 anomaly.
An October 64 build is a at least a month, maybe two, into regular production, and by that time the odd and leftovers may have been resolved.

So question on this again. I found a C5GF distributor which would be a perfect date code for my car but it is a 12127-A and not -C. A being for 4 speed and C for automatic. Looking at Jim's spreadsheet I don't see any difference between the two. Is there a difference I am not seeing?
-
My guess would be that the advance curve is different.

Go back and read the entire line for my entry for C5GF-12127-C. The part number is "implied" by Bob Manell's book to be the same as C4GF-12127-B. I could not find any other references. You need a C5GF-12127-A.

Jim,
I have an automatic not a 4 speed. So wouldn't I need C?

Did you read my last?

My Mustang Red Book indicates; if you are running a 289/200 HP motor the C5GF-12127-A is assembly line correct. Brian

My Mustang Red Book indicates;
What is this? A Ford document? I started from scratch, using the Mustang Assembly Manuals, a 75 MPC (plus others), Ford Service Manuals, and then Bob Mannell's book as a "sanity check", plus what other research he did.
I found a C5GF distributor which would be a perfect date code for my car but it is a 12127-A (and not -C).
USE IT.
