I read somewhere that OE tie rods can be rebuilt. If this is possible, does anyone know who does this?

I haven't heard of anyone rebuilding them. Guess you might be able if the internal in reproduction or aftermarket interchange with originals and you had the tools to remove the caps and reinstall them again. Most any business would be concerned about liability and would likely remind the owner/builder that they were not for road use ::)
If you can't find originals in good shape or NOS ones guess it would not be something that could not be attempted at home dependign on your access to tools

I specifically asked Marcus to rebuild mine and he cannot. I sent Fred Ballard one set of my tie rods and he was unable to remove the cap too.
These tie rods were very common, as I understand all V8s shared the same tie rods depending upon if they were manual steering vs power steering.
I was able to locate good usable tie rods from a guy named Mike in Austin Texas who has many mustang parts. Let me know if you need his contact info.

The 65-66 V8 tie rods are not all interchangeable between PS and manual steering cars.
Maybe this scan will help illustrate (taken from a final printing of the MPC) the different application and parts. There was a campaign/recall related to tie rod ends at least for the PS cars in 66 if I recall the date correctly. Have not be able to figure out or find documentation of the problem or issue but have a campaign "kit" of all four in a single box with the campaign label on the main box

I can refinish your tie rods as long as you don’t need the shaft bolt replaced. Here are some pictures of restored tie rods next to a media blaster unfinished tie rod. Last picture is just pulled off of car.

There is a REAL difference "rebuilding" verses "refinishing". I think that you probably meant to say you can "refinish" the tie rods. Correct me if I'm mistaken and please briefly describe what you replace if you actually "rebuild" these units.

They can't be rebuilt, only cosmetically restored. I'll only do this on tie rods that are still tight. The outers usually wear the worst, maybe due to the upright position and possibility of holding water/moisture over time (once the boots start failing).

I changed my verbiage to “refinished” since the bolt shaft was not replaced.
