Title: 68 windshield jar
Post by: snakeoil on September 20, 2010, 11:06:31 PM
Restoring 68 shelby-have seen both types of windshield jar--one with a molded circle by drain fitting and one without as pictured. Which is correct or can someone explain difference.

The one in your second picture is the factory correct one. The extra step down to the washer hose fitting was for a small brass screen that was used to keep contaminents out of the washer system.

Soaking the one in the second picture in 14% or greater hydrogen peroxide for several days will bring it back to the slightly off-white original appearance. The bright white finish of the one in the frist picture really is not correct.

Currently in the Concours classes, we do not take off points for the replacement style in the first picture because (1) we are not supposed to touch the car, (2) we cannot use mirrors yet, and (3) it is very hard to see the step down without any physical or visual aid.

Regards,
Pete Morgan
